Description of the product/ project

The BioMAP project (Monitoring and Assessing of Biodiversity of Egypt) started with the main task of creating a comprehensive IT-based database of existing Egyptian biodiversity records, linked to new inputs from monitoring inside and outside the Protected Areas, and accessible to users via the Web. Only this will allow analysis of changes in the status of Egypt’s biodiversity upon which credible national reports to the Convention on Biological Diversity and other conventions (such as Ramsar) depend; only this will enable users of all types to see and use credible information on biodiversity to inform decision-making at all levels.

Jury Evaluation The BioMap project centers around monitoring and assessing the biodiversity of Egypt.It has built an extensive database to map the distributions of species across Egypt, encourage and enhance the capacity of park rangers to monitor and collect data, raise public awareness of the need to conserve Egypt's biodiversity for future generations, and support work in local communities that makes sustainable use of local resources, preserving the traditions and heritage of people in the context of their environment. The site is attractively designed and contains rich content with photographs and illustrations.

Ministry of Health portal is a comprehensive resource for medical care information in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The site provides information about the public and private health system in the kingdom, including statistics, information about the Ministry of Health and its activities, conferences, the enhancement of public health services.
It provides directories of doctors, hospitals and clinics in Bahrain and a, and much more.
The site assists in promotion, prevention of health care through an extensive collection of documents covering lot of the health education aspects. It provides many electronic services such as checking details of appointments previously booked at MoH clinics, checking readiness status of radiology reports, checking blood information and last date of donation, booking appointments at MoH private clinics, finding the drug prices, beside many other services. The portal also provides procedural information about all the services that may not be amenable for electronic delivery.

Jury Evaluation A complete informative website involving all information required related to medical activities. Craftsmanship involved in this site is good and simple to understand. Medical care information “Recommended Immunization Schedule for the Expanded Program on Immunization, Bahrain” is useful for new parents. 
The e-services provided help patients to be in touch with the hospital for any information.

 

 

Arabic computer Application for Dyslexia

Description of the product/ project

Dyslexia can be described as a learning disability which makes it difficult read and spell. The Kuwait Dyslexia Association (KDA) applied a thorough study on Kuwait schools and the results revealed that 6.25% (almost 30,000 students) suffer from Dyslexia. KDA approached Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) seeking technical support to develop an Arabic computer based application to help in treating dyslexic students. A prototype was designed and a beta-version of the application “Sinbad and Jasmin” was developed and presented to KDA to be used by children aged 4-11 years old. “Sinbad and Jasmin” application uses several strategies to help treating dyslexic children by enhancing their short-term memory. These strategies are fully represented by animation supported with examples of how to apply.

Jury Evaluation

This application uses technology to help young individuals suffering from Dyslexia to learn how to overcome their problems. The application has 3 levels, for beginners, intermediate, and  advanced stage.
It is the first application in Arabic language that  works according to Five Strategies of learning for Dyslexics people, to improve their instant memory and speed learning, and each strategy is presented with different animations and characters that are attractive for kids.
The site is rich with local content (graphics, language, and story scenario) and helps cure and overcome Dyslexia.
