Background
Bahrain e Content Award
is organised by the Ministry of Industry
and Commerce in Bahrain and Bahrain Internet
Society and inspired by WSA - the WORLD SUMMIT
AWARD in order to select quality e-content and promote
creativity and innovation in the development of new media
applications in Bahrain.
The WORLD SUMMIT AWARD
2003/05 is unique through its specific categories, which cover all
aspects and sectors of the emerging Information Society and put the
added value of multimedia and electronic contents for specific user
groups and purposes at the centre of competition and evaluation. It
is also unique due to sustained outreach activities in all United
Nations member states and its promotion by leading multimedia and
internet organisations and institutions. The
WORLD SUMMIT AWARD
Project is governed by rules approved by the Board of Directors, the
independent judgements of the European Academy of Digital Media and
on the basis of 5 years of experience with the EUROPRIX contest. It
is carried out by the
WORLD SUMMIT AWARD office at ICNM, Austria.

The organizing committee:
This award is a joint venture project between Ministry of Industry and Commerce in Bahrain and Bahrain
Internet Society to encourage the creativity in
the domestic e-content.
This Competition is pre-selection of Bahraini e-products to
the World
Summit Award 2007.

Award Categories
e-Learning
Serving the needs of learners to acquire knowledge and skills
for a complex and globalizing world; transforming schools,
universities and other educational institutions through interactive,
personalized and distributed learning resources; creating
active e-learning communities and target models and solutions
for corporate training, supporting first steps in multimedia.
e-Culture
Preserving and presenting cultural heritage in line with
the challenges of the future; demonstrating valuable cultural
assets clearly and informatively using state-of-the-art technology.
e-Media:
All parties and agencies covering news, events and provides information services electronically.
e-Science
Fostering global collaboration in key areas of science, and
the next generation of infrastructure that will enable it;
providing measures to promote and demonstrate scientific processes
and make them accessible to citizens; scientific projects
articulated through new media.
e-Government
Empowering citizens and serving public services clients;
fostering quality and efficiency of information exchange and
communication services in governmental and public administrative
processes; strengthening participation of citizens in information
society decision making.
e-Health
Developing the consumer-centered model of health care where
stakeholders collaborate, utilizing ICT, including internet
technologies to manage health issues as well as the health
care system.
e-Business
Support and optimization of business processes; creation
of new business models in e-commerce and m-commerce, business
to business, business to consumers, internet security and
other areas; supporting SMEs on the marketplace.
e-Banking:
Supporting banks that provides services to consumers electronically
e-Entertainment
Supplying digitized entertainment products and services;
entertaining the user in this world's variety of languages
and its cultural diversity; supporting movement from one-way
to two-way, from single to multiple players, interactive entertainment
and the synergy between analog and digital platforms.
e-Inclusion
All measures supporting IT integration of least developed
countries into the Information Society. Reducing the "digital
divide" and content gap between technology-empowered and
technology-excluded communities and groups - such as rural
areas and women. Bridging society through multimedia.
Criteria
All e-products will be evaluated
according to criteria which are tied to the concept of value
added for users and e-contents for a purpose. Specific criteria
developed for the evaluators cannot over-ride any generic
information disseminated. The final decision on the clarification
of the criteria to be used is to be done by the jury.
EVALUATION CRITERIA
- Quality and comprehensiveness of content
- Ease of use: functionality, navigation and orientation
- Value added through interactivity and multimedia
- Attractiveness of design (aesthetic value of graphics/audio)
- Quality of craftsmanship (technical realisation)
- Strategic importance for the global development of the
Information Society
Rules of the competition:
- The BAHRAIN eCONTENT AWARD is open to any company, organisation
and individual active in the content industry and based
in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
- The presented e-product must be produced fully or partially
by a Bahraini individual or company, which must reflect
Bahrain's local morals and traditions without any advocacy
for racism, secularism, nudity, gambling, or any indecent
content.
- The participant must register his/her e-product based
on the correct category set by the Award regulations. The
Award judges have the right to disqualify any work submitted
that does not follow the correct category set by the Award
regulations.
- The participant must provide the appropriate electronic
access to his/her submitted e-product for evaluation purposes
by the judging team.
- Award results announced by the organizing team are final.
- Entries can be made in any United Nations language.
- All entries have to be complete products or applications
and include instructions for installation and use. No drafts,
demonstrations or unfinished prototypes are accepted.
- Incomplete submissions and those not conforming to the
published guidelines will be disqualified without further
notice. There is no possible legal recourse against these
decisions.
- Submitters are held responsible for the smooth functioning
of their products and applications.
- Pictures, sound, content and software etc. must have
copyright permission and the uses of all software should
be legal.
- All materials submitted become the property of the organisers
and will not be returned. One copy of the submitted product
will be archived for the record. No commercial use of this
archive may or will be made.
- All offline products must be sent by the producers to
the BeA office in Manama and arrive no later the November
30th. The BeA office does not accept mailing or transport
costs for any entry.
- With completion of registration, participants in the Award
accept the rules, guidelines and Award criteria governing
BAHRAIN eCONTENT AWARD.
- The registration and submission process of a product to
the evaluation itself does in no way entitle it to specific
benefits. There is no possible legal recourse against the
organisers.
